New Commercial Project in Henderson

Not all of the action will be taking place in Las Vegas. The city of Henderson has approved the largest resort to be built in city limits on an 80 acre parcel at the corner of St. Rose Parkway and Las Vegas Boulevard. The project, M Resort, Spa and Casino proposed $1-billion project includes an 11-story casino resort totaling 390 rooms and suites with 90,000 sf of gaming space and over 40,000 sf of meeting and conference space. Other planned amenities will include a large spa, canyon feature pool area with waterfalls, restaurants and other unnamed  entertainment options.

The site is located about 10 miles south of the Las Vegas strip at an elevation 400 feet higher than most strip properties. The higher elevation should allow for some great views of the Las Vegas skyline and the surrounding mountains. Its reported that MGM Mirage Inc. is investing $160 million in M Resort.

It seems that commercial Henderson real estate is still going strong. because that's not the only commercial activity in the area. Another resort, Southern Highlands Resort is planning to develop a 100 acre parcel across from the M Resort site. It will be a mixed use project featuring approximately 600 hotel rooms, plus retail and entertainment space.

This weekend at Nellis AFB  Aviation Nation returns this Saturday and Sunday to celebrate 60 years of aviation history. Its one of the largest aviation events in North America. A day in Boulder City

Today I spent the day in clean, green Boulder City. Despite the severely restricted growth, there is some new construction going on there. Several new homes are being finished in Lake Mead View Estates. Some of the views are spectacular and the homes aren't bad either!  The community is located just off US 93 on your way to Lake Mead.

big horn sheepAfter touring the community, we took a break and made a pit stop at Hemening Way park. It has great views of Lake Mead and attracts all sorts of visitors. A few minutes later, several females came to join him for lunch. Apparently they are regular visitors because there are signs up everywhere stating that they are wild animals and not to feed them. Dogs aren't allowed at the park either. One of the residents we were talking to there said that they will generally shy away from people but will come right up to her when she is riding her horse. I'm afraid the picture doesn't do him justice.

The park is right down the street from Lake Mountain Estates which was our next stop. I finally updated my community pictures and then stopped by Bella Vista, the new(er) community next door. Both communities have great views of the mountains and Lake Mead.

quailAs we were driving back, we had to stop to watch the quail. There was a whole troupe running across the street, but I only managed to catch these two on camera. If you are a nature lover, Boulder City is a great place to go to see some of our native species. Home owners who live in the mountains often get visits from quail, big horn sheep and various other native wildlife. The beauty of the desert right in your backyard.

All Ogog about blogs

My husband had started blogging a few years ago. Back then, blogs were not as main stream as they are now.  There were a lot of sites that compiled and organized blogs like there are now. One of the newer ones is ogog.com. Its actually a non-profit site (a rarity indeed) that uses an open source API. The site lets you rate individual posts and display your "ratings".

Trump gets his name on the strip

trump signWell, its official. Visitors to the Las Vegas strip will now see "Trump" listed there.   Construction crews finished adding the Don's name to the first tower of the Trump International Hotel and Tower. The sign is a total of 140 feet long and each letter is 20 feet high!

Trump Towers

Of course, when they decided on a name for the project there was only going to be a single tower. Sales for Trump Tower II are already underway. According to the Trump sales team, the final touchs on the interior lobby are being made at this time as well as completion of the rest of the interior.  There is no official word on their website as to a completion date, but judging by the speed of the construction I'm guessing by next summer it will be completed and occupied.

For more information about the Trump Towers or any of the other Las Vegas high rise condos, call me at 702-493-8033. There are still units available.

Las Vegas Monorail

las vegas monorailThis Saturday the Las Vegas monorail had free giveaways at each station. Locals rode the monorail free all day and the regular unlimited one day pass was discounted for visitors to $9.

We boarded at the end of the line at the MGM Station and road it all the way to the end, at the Sahara Station. The entire trip took about 30 minutes, with stops at each of the five stations in between. Some of the "entertainment" at each station was truly Las Vegas. One stop had a photo opportunity in front of a green screen where you could dress in various costumes and appear in front of the Las Vegas strip sign. Of course it wouldn't be Las Vegas without gambling. One stop had BlackJack and the other a wheel of fortune. Each station had a DJ  as well.

There are plans to expand the monorail service all the way out to McCarran international airport. Currently, it runs from MGM Grand with stops at Ballys/Paris, Flamingo Hilton, Harrahs/Imperial Palace, the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas Hilton and the Sahara. For anyone attending a convention, it is absolutely the best way to get to the convention center and a huge time saver. The convention center station is located right in front of the West hall and just a short walk from the main hall.

The monrail runs Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Friday to Sunday until 3 a.m.  There are automated ticket machines at each station plus a customer service booth that is open until 8 p.m.  Tickets can be purchased on a per entry basis or you can buy unlimited passes up to 72 hours for $40.
