When most people think of Las Vegas, they immediately think of the strip. However, long before the strip became famous, Las Vegas was home to Nellis Airforce Base. The base came into being in 1941 and was renamed Nellis in 1950, in honor of a Las Vegas resident and P-47 pilot, William Harrell Nellis, who died in action during the Battle of the Bulge.
Today, Nellis is home to almost 9,000 people (source: census 2,000) and houses five wings with more than 150 aircraft. It is also home of the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center and the world famous Thunderbirds. In keeping with cutting edge technology, Nellis Airforce Base is building the largest photovoltaic solar power plant in the United States. It should be complete next month and generate an estimated 15 megawatts of power, about 25% of the power needed to power the base. Nellis AFB has its own zip code, 89191.
In the process of being transferred to Nellis? I can help. There are several housing and condo communities that are close to the base. I am a member of the Greater Association of Las Vegas Realtors and can send you listings of properties for sale in any area. My services to you are completely free. Simply email me your criteria (housing type, number of beds, sq footage, etc) and I'll send you listings of those properties available. You may reach me at (702) 493-8033.
